Primary role is to research and develop product technology platforms. The platform technologies will then be used to develop products, or product families, that can be manufactured and then commercially sold by STR Solar. Fundamental expertise required in Polymer development, polymer films development strongly preferred. Ph.D. combined with a minimum of 3 to 5 years current commercial experience strongly preferred. MS with substantial polymer product development and commercialization experience will also be considered.

Key responsibilities:

Technology Development - Platform Development

• Utilize skills and knowledge to define new technologies, raw materials, and compositions that can be successfully utilized by STR Solar for the commercial development of products for sale to the solar market.

• Provide project leadership for assigned projects to ensure that objectives are met within the defined timelines.

• Establish relationships with raw material vendors, consultants, universities, and research consortiums, to facilitate technology transfer into STR.

• Manage scientists, engineers, technical associates, and technicians, whom may be direct reports that are working on specific technology development products.

• Prepare routine project reports, technology bulletins, papers for conferences and journals. Present papers at conferences. Participate in scientific and engineering societies related to solar market. Participate in industry specification bodies (IEC and UL working groups for PV industry).

Product Commercialization Support and Testing:

• Lead specific projects as they are translated from the R&D laboratory to pilot scale production. Provide consulting and proactive assistance with production engineering during pilot and commercial scale trials of new products.

• Provide direction and assist the Applications Engineering group with testing of new products prior to customer introduction.

• Improvement of new products via feedback from product testing and customer evaluation.

Customer Technical Service:

• Provide consulting services, internal & external, for difficult technical service issues.

• Participate at periodic customer meetings with sales & marketing for major customers.

Internal Manufacturing Support:

• Provide technical support for internal manufacturing trials of new technologies during early stage implementation. Provide training to process engineers and R&D engineers that will be working with the technology platform for commercial products.

Minimum 3 to 5 years relevant experience encompassing end to end infrastructure support including Enterprise facilities of: Firewalls (Symantec), DNS, Virtual Servers, Exchange Servers, DB's (MS SQL, Oracle) BS degree highly preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

• Communication with staff or clients to understand system specification requirements.
• Identify system data, hardware, or software components required to meet user needs.
• Documentation of design specifications and other system-related information.
• Provide solutions for end to end infrastructure project design concepts or design changes.
• Verify stability, interoperability, portability, security, or scalability of infrastructure architecture.
• Evaluate current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility, or usability.
• Provide guidelines for implementing secure systems to customers or installation teams.
• Provide technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems.

Due to extremely rapid growth, a Full time Quality Assurance professional is needed to support STR's Solar Division. The incumbent will assist the Solar Quality Manager in the administration of the photovoltaic film extrusion quality program, conduct audits of various types, and evaluate and improve quality methods.
 
A Bachelors of Science Technical Degree, preferably one of the following Engineering disciplines: Mechanical, Chemical, Plastics, Industrial, or Reliability is required. A minimum of 3-5 years experience in Quality Engineering in an ISO 9000, continuous process environment is strongly desired. Reliability, Industrial and/or Process Engineering experience is a plus. ASQ certification to one or more of the following: CQM, CRE, and/or CQE required. Proficient in the use of quality tools such as: process mapping, FMEA, GR&R, and SPC.
